“My paintings and the stories they suggest, draw on a wide source of imagery and reference: local observations, social and political questioning, media imagery, art history and much imagining…….
Although nuanced and contemplative, I try to suggest a sense of irony and tension and my commentary focuses broadly on the complexities of the human condition and the world we live in.
The results are multi-layered narratives – deliberately open-ended and enticing the viewer to speculate their interpretation, adding their own experience.  This discursive, ‘is it or isn’t it?’ kind of narrative is heightened by the assortment of visual devices I employ. Layering, semi-transparency, subtle distortion and visual metaphor provide a visual link between the real and the suggested, the imagined, or the past. My painting style is deliberate and precise, be it paintings in oil, acrylic or more recently watercolour and gouache.”
